Scroll down to learn how to use Truth or Fate’s magic…

To begin, gather 2-8 players who want to magically connect through a fun ritual of the Past, Present, and Future.

The Past

The first Ritual of Truth or Fate is meant to align people’s pasts through questions, memories, and activities.

Start by shuffling the 100 cards, placing them back in the box with the white side facing out.

The player with the nearest upcoming birthday goes first.

Draw a random card; the right cards will find you.

There are 3 card types...

1. Seeking: Spin the card, ask its question.

2. Magical Choice: Choose a player — They choose 1 of 3 paths. Ask that path’s question.

3. Words of Fate: Choose a player — They answer a fateful question. Their words may summon a group activity.

Seeking Cards: Twirl the card so it spins as it falls, read the question to the person it points closest to when it stops. If it points closest to you, read then answer the question yourself.

Magical Choice Cards: Choose another player, ask them the top question, and have them pick a word on the card. Then, ask the question beside their chosen word.

Words of Fate Cards: Choose another player, ask the top question, and they'll respond with a word or short phrase and an explanation. The First Letter of their Response guides your next move to one of two paths.

You will then either return the card to the box to end your turn.

-OR-

Take the Book of Fates from the box to host a special Fate activity for everyone.

There are 25 unique Fates with step-by-step illustrated instructions to create lasting memories or strengthen connections.

After completing a card's instructions, create a discard pile and end your turn by discarding.

Pass the box clockwise to the next player, and the process continues.

When everyone has drawn, used, and discarded 3 cards, this concludes the ritual of the Past…

The Present

The second ritual of Truth or Fate meant to align people to the present moment and give a true offering before the cards decide their futures.

Enter the Present by taking the gift paper pad from the box and distributing one gift paper to all players.

Everyone must write a secret message for the person on your left, anything you wish to give them. A compliment, an observation, or advice.

Exchange messages to the left without reading them and put them away to read in the future. They are yours to keep. This marks the end of the Present ritual.

The Future

The third and final ritual of Truth or Fate is meant to help uncover and guide each other through their futures.

The owner of the Truth or Fate deck shuffles the discard pile with the white side up.

Then say, "I see your future," to the player on their left before turning over three cards.

Reading each card's title and prophecy and lay them in front of the player.

Share the story you perceive the 3 cards tell; trust your heart's interpretation. —There is no wrong way to interpret. Trust your own intuition.

Ask the player to choose the card that resonates with them the most.

Find the chosen card's page number in the Book of Fates, read its meaning, and recommend a book for them.

Hand the discard pile to the player so they can read futures for the person on their left, following the same steps.

Continue this cycle until everyone has read the future for the person on their left, concluding the Future ritual.

The End

Much will be uncovered in the experience of Truth or Fate, it is important to provide a space for closure at and compassion at its end.

To complete the experience provide closure, and return to the world, read aloud "The Ending" on the last page of the Book of Fates.
